Battle Facilities in the Battle Frontier had different gimmicks. You're being disingenuous. You can group Tower, Dome, and Factory into one group if you want (though I'd argue that Factory is still unique as you're forced to use rental Pokemon), but the Pyramid, Pike, Arena and Palace were all unique. The Battle Maison is basically just the Battle Tower with Single, Double, Rotation, and Multi battles formats. It didn't even have an Inverse Battle format, despite that being a gimmick introduced in Gen VI.

Because it is the same, pokemon stagnated. Emerald is looked upon fondly because it IMPROVED from the previous games, while x/y is a sidestep with nothing actually getting better.

Dome and Tower, yes. Pike and Pyramid, no. In the Pike all your Pokemon could randomly be poisoned or burnt prior to being challenged by a trainer. In the Pyramid, you'd have to grind through floors and use your items carefully in order to reach the summit.

pike is an endurance challenge that can be cheesed just by using defensive pokemon with healing moves and pyramid is an endurance challenge that can be cheesed just by using defensive pokemon with party healing moves. They're the same thing in different coats of paint.

I did the Battle Frontier recently and I really didn't see the appeal. Most of the facilities are boring and it takes an extremely long time to complete a facility, with a single failure (often due to RNG) making you restart from the very beginning. I really liked Emerald as a game but it was not for the Frontier.
