What would be the legal precedent for putting betamons in another game? Not like a ROMhack or fangame, but like another completely different commercial ip? Asking for a friend.

This doesn't make much sense. So I (Not OP) can draw a million different fire snakes and keep them in my PC and if GF makes one that looks close enough I can sue them?

There's you're problem. If you publish them somewhere where a date of creation and ties to you can be connected, then you might have a case on your hands. However, your lawyer would have to then go make the case that your design is similar enough to GFs design to warrant the suit and, if you're just pitching a bunch of fire snakes, you probably won't hit the level of specificity needed for you to win. If your design choices are very generic, the judge will recognize that and dismiss it.

That's one thing, OP is talking about using their betamons, which they can obviously prove they possess. It's technically under the Pokemon IP even if not necessarily copyrighted or whatever.
