when first conceptualized? it was useless filler. Nowadays there are enough moves and typing variants to make it a nice niche and counter in its own right. Still can't escape the early shitmon but latergame bugs are good.

It is, it's Normal. Bug isn't very strange when you realize Water serves the secondary purpose of being essentially fish Type, Normal is mammal, Flying is bird etc. It's not what they're primarily supposed to be but in practise that's absolutely what they are

So is Dragon-Type the analogous to Reptiles? Also what about other categories of animals like Amphibians, Crustaceans, Molluscs, etc. I know Arachnids tend to just get lumped in with bugs so they're kinda exempt.

Volt Switch can be negated by ability, type immunity, and isn't absolutely retarded with distribution. It is mostly limited to Electric and Steel Pokemon. Flip Turn would be a bigger offender but unlike U-Turn they were not retarded with the distribution
