I love the concept of Arceus Legends, but something that keeps bothering me is... what happened to all the Pokemon? How did so many lose evolutions?

It's fundamentally story of human caused extinction and it kind of bums me out knowing that the present day Sinnoh was only recently gone through a large extinction event. How will Gamefreak explain this?
