Is to ignore the side content as you're playing. SM and especially USUM have a town of thungs to do outside of the main story like sidequests, exploration of optional areas, searches for rare pokemon, and building up the Pokepelago.

It's an rpg. Story is one of the main selling points.

Play showdown if something as simple as story scares you. Probably get halfway through a SMT tutorial before peeing yourself. "I've spent 2 hours on cutscenes and tutorials! Shit game!"
