TPC was hell bent on Leon being the strongest trainer in the anime at the start of the series. Then they made the World Coronation Series a thing out of no where and made Ash climb up the ranks, and they are rather rushing him through it.
Maybe after the controversy of XY anime final, TPC or GF or someone else, I don't know, decided that Ashnime must come to an end, that they can't make him the 10 year old boy who aimlessly wanders around losing leagues left and right and going to the next region in an endless loop, so they made him win the Alola League and now they are going to make him beat Leon and become the new world champion. Making him wander around the world instead of locking him to Galar is a clear proof for this.
He also rather quickly climbs up the ranks. What do you think will happen after he beats Leon? What's there left to do? Nothing.
