>>48510547Honestly this is the best summation for why I've liked most GMax designs more than megas, they fell more focused. Of course there are some that end up being pretty lazy or superfluous in execution (even if they're not bad designs), like Eevee or Venusaur, but on the whole, they feel cohesively designed.
This isn't to say every mega was an aimless, overdesigned mess. Megas like Sceptile, Mawile, Sableye, and Tyranitar built upon their bases pretty damn well in a way that was tasteful AND made sense, and certain ones like Gengar and Gyarados didn't exactly expand on their base themes, but introduced new ones that tie into the design very well. But then you get shit like Mega Aerodactyl, every Kanto starter mega, Mega Swampert, Mega Piedgeot, Mega Houndoom, Mega Manectrice (this one is especially egregious), Mega Metagross, etc. that went the "DUDE JUST ADD MORE OF THE SAME DETAILS" route to a ridiculous degree and they all look like gaudy garbage because of it. Even some I personally like, Like Mega Breedrill and Mega Salamence, don't add anything special or unique to the base design, hey just add MORE of what was there before on a design that was, by more counts, already complete.
