>>48511993Counter just sucks as a move in competitive. As soon as your opponent knows you have it its useless. To make use of it you have to get your Pokemon in and then bait out a physical attack, then survive it.
If they set up, status, hazard, or use a special move, or switch, you've just given it away and it's a dead moveslot.
That's what we call a gimmick, it targets only a couple Pokemon, is hard to make use of, and relies on your opponent not preparing for it. There are much more interesting gimmicks you can use(for example, against physical attackers without rock coverage, in gen 6/7 you could run PDef Charizard X, set up with Dragon Dance and Roost, then sweep. It fulfilled a different niche than people were expecting, and was way easier to use).
Try and consider what your opponent would do in the following situations:
>You lead Regice into a common physical lead(like Landorus)>You switch Regice into a common physical attacker(note that this isnt necessarily easy. 252 HP 252+ Def Regice gets 2hko'd by Kartana Leaf Blade 95% of the time)What are they likely to do when an 80/100 bulk Pokemon comes in on them? Maybe they'll calc it and merk you. Maybe that hit you switch into will merk you anyways. Or maybe they'll calc it, see that they can't quickly get through you, and switch into something that full on walls everything you can do(Like Heatran).
It doesn't really get better as you go down in the tier lists. Even in PU, Archeops gets a guaranteed 1HKO with Head Smash, so you can't use Counter on Regice against it. Choice Band Absol Close Combat is a guaranteed 2HKO, so you can't switch into it.
The move just isn't reliable enough.
