Would it have killed them if they made Corsola evolve into Cursola via an item or a special method? Corsola is one of my favorite mons and I always dreamed about it getting an evolution. I'm fucking livid at what they did to it.

Its a superb gimmick but I really wish they'd give other Gens them instead having over 25 of them being Kanto mons.
I'm also not a big fan of Obstagoon being only found in Galar and having it retconed that the Linoone line is originally from Galar so thats why normal Linoone hasnt evolved into Obsatgoon elsewhere.

Ideally I wish they'd focus on a gen and pick the mons that could use a buff/a redo on their concept. Nitpicking aside I do like the gimmick nonetheless.

but as far as pokemon designs yes i agree
you can only have so many species of mons
plus the established ones are already lovable so giving them a new coat of paint, stats, types, abilities is really nice for fans of those existing pokemon

this is why i really like the romhacks and fangames with regional variants instead of completely new fakemons.

megas are also nice
dymax and z-moves was a complete failure tho

Kantonian meowth I can see, so whatever, but I think Perrserker follows up as a Meowth evolution way better than Persian does by any stretch of the imagination, so I like it more because I just think Meowth's base design principles are way better than Persian's.
Only tangentially related, but If Persian was released today and Perrserker was an OG people would be shitting on Persian for being boring design like Toucannon and Boltund while Perrserker would be seen as another example of the "ambiguous monster" design principles Pokemon's "abandoned" like with Nidoking and Alakazam.

Unless we're talking remakes it's unlikely a main series pokemon game will have the og and NOT the regional, rememeber swsh included Alola forms for no reason, so it's likely that if a Pokemon is in the game its regional form will follow along

Also its better than them getting megas and then just losing that buff 2 gens later...pour one out for mawile who could've just gotten huge power but had it locked behind a shitty gimmick

I guess one of the benefits of it being a regional form is that it'll probably never be available in another region (outside of post-game or transferring it via Home), and Gen 9 will either default back to Kanto Meowth or have its own form.

Specific evolutionary items by trade can have such effects on mons. Dragon Scale turns Seadra into a Dragon-type mon. Metal Coat turns Onix and Scyther into Steel-type mons. That concept has been a thing for 22 years. I guess you're too young to know that.

in theory they are a nice idea, but even in real life, "regional formes" of real animals are usually classified as different species (the indian and african elephant are different species), and pokemon already does that with other pokemon (donphan and copperajah for example).

Regional formes dont benefit the original form in the slightest, all it does is having Pokemon on your team that wont allow you to have the other formes in online battles, because they share the same Pokedex number.

Might as well make pokemon that just look like older pokemon and give them another name
