But, you see the 'neck' that connects the jaws to the head? It is incredibly small and skinny, not really suitable for swallowing large chunks of food. Not to mention that, if it did, said food would be passing through it's fucking brain, which would almost certainly kill it.
What this means is that Mawile's jaws are likely some kind of combination between a crocodile/alligator's jaws and a venus fly trap. It uses the great strength and sharp teeth of it's jaws to tear apart anything too large to fit inside them, shuts their jaws, and then secretes an enzyme to decompose whatever it has inside.
Then, rather than swallowing, much like a venus fly trap it simply absorbs the dissolved nutrients into the jaws, and then spreads them through the rest of the body via the 'neck'.
