I'm not taking Love as an answer because most normal types have nothing to do with love. Although, I suppose if you look at most ghost types, they sometimes have some sort of association with negative emotions like spite or regret... so MAYBE you could stretch the narrative that they love each other so much that it gives them a connection to life still.
I hate that explanation though.
