Gen VIII is preparing the public for the end of transfers. Home is the band-aid solution for any idiot stupid enough to buy into it. It's intended to keep the long-time collectors happy in the short-term while they acclimate the fanbase to the idea that every game going forward will lack Pokemon. Because Game Freak can barely code and we can assume they'll repeat their actions, it's likely the next generation of Nintendo hardware will NOT receive a Home port. In fact new hardware will be the perfect opportunity to move on to the next step of cutting transfers altogether, they can play ignorant and say the costs related to it would be far too much and that managing so many Pokemon even in a storage app would be too monumental a task.
Pokemon has never had more than two generations on a single platform. We are already 2 years into gen VIII and 4 years into the Switch's lifespan, Pokemon generations are typically in 3 - 4 year cycles and we won't see gen IX until late 2022 at the very earliest, probably late 2023. By 2026 the Switch will be 9 years old and more than likely will have a successor out for a year or two in desperate need of some Pokemon.
Gen X is about half a decade away which is more than enough time to phase out generational transfers at this rate. Basically, we're already the frog in the kettle.
