In Platinum, you have to beat Fantina before being allowed access to Route 209. Also in Platinum, you cannot proceed past Veilstone until you beat Maylene, and it's not possible to do Maylene and Wake in any order like in the original DP.

Most people say handholding started with Gen 6, some argue it was Gen 5, but the truth is, it started with Platinum.
