Wouldn't the bigger question be why they didn't give any Gen VI Pokemon a Mega Evolution in XY and the only one that did get a Mega was Diancie?

because the entire point of the gimmick is "look your favorite old pokemon has flashy new design now" which doesn't work when the pokemon itself is already new.

yeah, because the gimmick isn't for buffing pokemon, it's for giving shillmons more attention. which is why 90% of megas are for typical popularshit like starters, pseudos, gengar, scizor, houndoom, gardevoir, lucario, etc.

Tyranitar, Metagross, and Garchomp didn't need any while there could have just been a new physical Flying-type move that Salamence could have been able to learn along with many others.

OP Mega Evolution for the sake of being OP because popularity.

All this while there are Pokemon that actually need buffs such as Meganium and Typhlosion. I'm not talking about giving them a Mega Evolution either as that won't fix their movepools.
