Youre kidding yourself. Watch those episodes again. Almost nothing made any sense and the whole Dawn meeting Mesprit like Ash met Ho-oh was retconned ingo the group being chosen ones for some reason. And the climax was even worse. Remember how all the plot threads connected which culminated into the big finale? No? The group just poof into Team Galactic’s base and things just start happening?

Although the Aether arc and the Necrozma arc have to be tied for the absolute worst villain/story arcs in the series. Literal hot garbage, served twice

Not him, but the Galactic arc was fine. The reason Dialga/Palkia didn't get much focus is the DP movie trilogy aired all throughout DP. They even did their version of the distortion world in the Giratina movie.

The only "problem" the arc had is Dialga/Palkia don't get much focus (they get halfway through the portal and it closes), but because we had 3 movies about them I didn't care much. The rest of the Galactic finale was handled perfectly.

Because Lysandre has a horrid motivation just like in the games. The XY games themselves have a pretty bad story so no surprise that the anime adaptation doesn't salvage it. But at least they could've not made it the semi finale of the series itself so as to not leave a bad aftertaste. In all other series the game antagonist plot is done away with quickly because they're always shitty

He just says he hates them because of reasons and somehow that's enough reason for him to want to nuke the world. And that's the exact problem as I've said many times. All the adaptations of the game's plots have always been shit because most of the time the game's plot itself is shit. The XY anime is only more egregious because unlike the other series, it decided to present the game plot arc at the tail end of the series. Otherwise they're all just as bad

Your argument seems to have shifted back to the placement in the series, but I don't really see what the big deal is. If it leaves a poor taste in your mouth, surely that's more of a criticism on the entire XY series as opposed to something inherently flawed about the arc itself.

Both of them were equally retarded in how they went about their plan, so you saying Lysandre is a retard is kind of a mute point.
I don't really think you can say it's pointless with how it was the accumulation of the Mega Evolution specials and the whole Squishy plot in XYZ.
There are tonnes of problems with it, but I don't think it's more egregious as the other villainous team arcs, and spending an episode on the aftermath was a nice way to tie it all together.

The placement of the TF arc is one of the reasons why it's so good. No it shouldn’t have. The arc started with the first mega special and ended with the 5-part climax that’s meant fo be the finale of the series. The Galactic arc doesn’t compare in this regard because the climax of it happens with no lead up, and ultimately ends inconsequentially. The aftermath of the Flare arc left Lumiose City and it’s people in shambles and the group made it their final tasks to get everything back in order before splitting apart.

With the galactic arc, the group are teleported to the Galactic base because they are the chosen ones and then they don’t really do anything besides fight the commanders. There’s no battle with the legendaries, Cyrus, or any real consequences after everything ends. It just ends and everything is forgotten about. And that’s really the Galactic arc as a whole, with nothing Ash and friends do that impacts Galactic in any sort of way or any real power struggle. Everything about the Galactic arc has no real impact on anything that goes on outside of their story.

His goal in the anime was to recreate the universe as one without emotion, which is essentially the same thing. The difference is he's a manipulator who puts on a front as a kind businessman. The Flare arc ended at the end of the series because Lysandre wanted Alain to collect Mega Evolution energy at the Pokémon League and that would be enough to put their plan into action. As well as Lysandre wanting to see Ash-Greninja in action in order to take ahold of it and Ash’s power. Since Ash and Greninja didn’t unlock their true form until the battle with Diantha, and finally perfect the Bond Phenomenon until the battle with Wulfric, the climax couldn’t happen yet.

Anyone know the best quality release for season 1? I've been comparing a lot of different ones, but I'm wondering if there's a specific one that's best. I'd prefer it if there weren't hardsubs like the one linked in the OP, since I'd like to watch in Japanese.

The anime barely followed X&Y’s story, and calling Lysandre’s motivation shallow is just showing you didn’t actually pay much attention to what was going on. From his very first appearance Lysandre was going on about certain people in the world who are actually helping the world progress need to be protected, and he needed people like Alain and Ash who wanted to be the strongest prove his point. People are greedy, greed brings self preservation, self preservation brings conflict, and conflict brings the world coming to an end. Lysandre wanted balance and only people who would help the world around, and the people who’d lose their lives would be a worthy sacrifice.

Cyrus on the other hand was a businessman with a lot of influence that for some reason wanted to create a new world because the current one was imperfect but we never find out why he feels that way. In the games it’s because his family hated him and he was too smart for his own good. In the anime he’s just a rich guy that thinks the world sucks. That alone makes his motivations not only retarded but worst than Lysandre’s.

I'm talking about how it would've been better if they just wrote the arc in such a way that it finished earlier, since ultimately it was pointless to put it at the end since they weren't exactly doing anything grandly different with the plot after all and just a variation on the game's plot.

His motivation is still shallow even if the anime does do a better job of providing background for him because the greed and conflict he talks about has never been explored in Pokémon at all. In fact ironically most of the conflict in the story is happening because of himself rather than the supposed greedy people that motivate him to nuke the world. That was the problem with the game and also the anime because it adapted the plot. We don't see the problems he has, we only hear about them.

I never said it doesn't make sense though? I said that it's unnecessary, because it is a deliberate writing choice that to me, feels pointless and could have been done much earlier.

The animation for the battles is so stiff. You can barely see animation for the most part. The writing for the battles is somewhat good although the fact that Lucario faced all 3 of Beas pokemon who are all supereffective against him and got heavily beaten by them but somehow isn't knocked out is so bullshit but its typical anime logic so there's nothing else I can say.

Megas in the anime are handled differently than Megas in the games for the sake of hype and suspense, but you aren't wrong. There's literally no downside to being in Mega from the start in either lore, but we can't have Lucario steamrolling the whole team and knocking out Machamp before it can start getting huge.
