My specification was that gen 3 DID, which means gen 5 started no such trend.
Gen 4 had its own fair share of issues, the engine itself was fucking atrocious but even going aside that, the story itself was meh at best and Pokemon distribution didn't make sense. Also, more of a nitpick but most of the cool designs are genuinely terrible statwise.

I have played them before you were even born, and Gen 3 is still just as good as the first two gens. It's in Gen 4 that the signs of downfall started showing but even then it was still good. But Gen 5 killed the series

Basically this. There was extreme hype because it was also the first region outside PokeJapan, had the greatest number of new Pokemon and no old Pokemon before post-game. The story was a bit serious too. I myself remember being so hyped for BW.
However, the game turned out to be tepid and it wasn't helped by the fact that the final evos of the starters were abhorrent.

And the problem isn't Charizard existing (all of the pre-existing Pokémon should be available) but the amount of focus he gets in later games.
Nobody deserves TWO Megas (as well as a Giga) and Leon's ace should've been an actual Gen 8 Pokémon.

Flat out false. There are numerous things which unova did that set it apart. It was the first pokemon game which forced you to only use the new pokemon instead of mindlessly using the old ones. It's story was more of a focal point. Mega's, Z moves and Dynamax all fundamentally break the game. Something which isn't true of black and white.

You also forgot to mention that all of the sprites were now animated, Which gave pokemon unique personality quirks as opposed to the new 3d models which all have them in "default" mode. And if you want to go that far, Black 2 and white 2 introduced the pokemon world tournament and the pokestar studio's. Both of which are far more interesting than anything that has come after them. They even introduced a hard mode in b2w2, It was locked behind as post game for some stupid reason but it was still there. Berry farming is a nothing feature, and the bottom screen was used for dream world mechanics. Which was how you got hidden abilities.

Elesa had two emogla in bw which would proceed to spam volt switch if you didn't have a ground type and even then you can't really hurt them with ground type moves either. Also they both have a way to hit the starter you chose super effectively, Clay has an excadrill with hone claws which could effortless sweep an opposing team mainly because of the limited options in bw, Drayden can dragon dance with his haxorus which could end up crushing your entire team. BW unova's lack of pokemon makes them much harder because of limited options. Because most of the really good mons evolve at like level 50.

I'm saying that the mainline Pokémon games should remain turn-based JRPGs.
Not that it should be made with no effort.

SwSh didn't suck because it had a story.
It sucked because that story was an incoherent mess.
And instead of making the player's journey worthwhile, it spend those moments shilling for Leon and his Charizard.

Ironically enough, a situation caused by people hating on Gen 5.
If you tards weren't whinging about how much you hate having to use new Pokémon in a new Pokémon game, we probably wouldn't have all of the Gen 1 pandering that has buggered up the franchise.

How is it mindless to use the old Pokémon? There were around 490 something Pokémon before it, and no way someone would've used them all. The whole "they hated it because no Charizard or Pikachu" is such a disingenuous argument it's not even worth talking about.

This isn't something exclusive to Gen 5 though? Gems 1-4 are also free of the gimmicks.

While the 3d models are absolutely souless, the animated sprites were an absolute pain to look at since they tween like crazy and just look really unpleasant.

Not only is this not true and just a few exceptions, but that still dodges the point that BW needlessly nerfed the gym leaders to have only 3 Pokémon, and even more egregiously the E4 only 4 Pokémon.

I was a genwunner who tried Pearl after skipping RSE and was thrown off the series until within the last few years. Went back to play B/W and found them just as enjoyable as Yellow or Crystal (maybe more handholding) and found E4/Ghetsis more difficult than other games. I would have licked to work in a few other region 'mons desu as first 3 gyms were quite limited but it doesn't ruin the game.

Let's look at Brycen's team then. In his entire team the only "strong" move his Pokémon even know is fucking Icicle Crash. Only. And he's supposed to be the 7th gym leader. And let's not even talk about Drayden whose strongest/highest BP move in his entire team is Night Slash. And it's only 70 BP. And he's supposed to be 8th gym leader. Drayden has dragon dance which boosts his mediocre power moves especially coming off of an an attack stat of 147. Assurance and revenge which if it moves after your mon the power will be doubled. Remember that drayden used pre fairy dragons which means they were much stronger, And your options for steel types were Klink, Escavalier, Cobalion Durant, Pawniard, Excadrill and the ferroseed line. Durant and Pawniard aren't even avaliable at the time not to mention Pawniards evolves far too late, Escavalier's got a specific evolution requirement, In other words your options are the klink line, Excadrill, and the ferroseed line All of which get hit hard by revenge from druddigon, Especially Klang which if you're using it have to hit druddigon twice with gear grind to deal remotely good damage to it, Hit twice by rough skin and then die to said revenge. Water types aren't exactly great either, Only the Oshawott line, The Frillish line, Basculin, Swanna, Panpour. Outside of samurott and Jellicent most water types are trash. For ice pokemon Vanillite won't be fully evolved and Cryogonal and Cubchoo come far too late into the game. Also if druddigon survives the hit, They're dying to revenge especially cryogonal with it's pitiful physical bulk. Even brycen who you said the strongest move he has is icicle crash is a complete lie because frost breath has the unique ability to always crit so it's regular base power isn't very telling. Also the reason brycen is easy is because he uses the ice type. Which sucks. He also uses moves like acid armor and reflect. As well as swagger.

Ironically playing Black version for the first time was the closest I've ever felt to playing the original games.
Although, I like playing new Pokémon games for the actual new Pokémon.
Trying to use different Pokémon in different playthoughs.
So having 150+ new critters to play with was an awesome concept.
Way better than seeing Charizard get a new form every Gen.
I've already used Charizard multiple times, and will probably use him again if I ever get round to replaying FireRed.
But I'm getting sick of seeing him over and over again.

Black and White are definitely harder than say, Fire Red and Leaf Green.

Berry Farming was fixed by making the berries buyable in BW2.

BW's post game is lackluster, but so are all initial entries. It had a Battle Tower equivalent just like RS and DP at least, and it had more to do in its postgame than RS. BW2 adds even more stuff.

Unova has all pre-existing Pokémon.
SwSh is missing 234 of them.

You didn't need to by Black 1 to play Black 2.

It's a game that was so widely panned online that there emerged a minority group that convinced themselves that if they like it, it's because only they as geniuses can appreciate the true genius of the games that the common pleb cannot comprehend. In reality, the games and their story are mediocre just like gen 4 was, but at least gen 4 had older pokemon to dilute its ugly dex. I think it causes the most controversy because those who defend it voraciously do so because they grew up with the games and have nostalgic emotional attachment to it, and they argue with those who have similar attachments to much earlier gens, and the two groups have no emotional attachment whatsoever to the opposite group's pokemon.

True, I was more grown up when I played Platinum. I grew up on Blue. The world is much less expansive, but looking back there's enough non-intuitive backtracking there too. Consider the path from Vermillion to the next city where there's actually anything to do yet, Celadon. You have to wait until after you get Lt. Surge's badge and the Cut HM, then go through Diglett's Cave back to near Pewter, cut a tree, go upstairs inside a route house, hopefully have caught 10+ pokes to get the Flash HM. Then it's back through the cave, back up to Cerulean, over to Rock Tunnel, through to Lavender where there's nothing to do, and then over through an underground tunnel to Celadon.

Now Black and White 2 on the other hand, was one of the best Pokemon experiences I've ever had, holy shit. It improved on BW1 in almost every single way.

Every Pokemon game has objective flaws, some more than others, including Unova games. If people here understood the difference and were able to preface subjective complaints with "I think" or "personally," there would be a lot more genuine discussion.

Dwebble makes all the difference and Cilan is the first Gym Leader. Brock is similarly destroyed by most anything, but I didn't mention him because he's supposed to be pathetic. Only Roxanne and Roark put up a significant challenge for a first leader before Gen 6/7/8.

burghs might be enough to finish off your fire type, but by they point you can use any other competent pokemon to finish it
gym leaders fold to the type theyre weak to in every game and the only execption i can think of is elesa who was actually a good gym leader from unova who was a challenge and doesnt fold to ground types, so i will give you that

Unova hands out plenty of fun and useful items to play around with. you'll have to excuse me as I've never played any Pokemon games with Mega evolutions in them. Only returned to the series recently, 1-5, really enjoyed White for its story and presentation. Crystal is also good, didn't like Hoenn and Pearl was WAY too slow on my DS.
