Gen 8 games should focus on Pokémon that originated in Gen 8.
Gen 1 literally had a game all to itself released the year before.

Although, Unova did have the best approach.
Force the player to only use the new 'mons during the main story.
But allow them to transfer all of the others in the post game.
FireRed/LeafGreen did the same thing, so anyone who complains is a hypocrite.

It made the game feel fresh and exciting.
Better than just encountering the same 'mons ad nauseam.
Again, if it's okay for Kanto, why is it bad for other regions?

If you really need your security blanket 'mons, just transfer them in.
Maybe saying that you should wait until is a bit much.
But given that HOME is a thing, you can just transfer them via that.
Or trade with an older sibling who has already beaten the game.

is this game even worth playing? I have a switch now but... I'm so hesitant about buying this. I want to play more pokemon but all the talk I hear of it is it was short and easy. Are there any redeeming qualities at all?

There were tons of mons back before Gen 5, and no one would've used them all. You could ,you know distribute those underrated/unused Pokémon in Unova and therefore give player's a something fresh and also have old Pokémon in the game. You cut put very underused mons like Glameow, Yanma etc in the early routes so that players can have option and these Pokémon can also get some spotlight
