Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that Mega Evolutions were complete and utter shit?

I know the derogatory phrase 'looks like Digimon' gets thrown around carelessly, but Mega Evolutions literally was the same type of thing that Digimon did. Every single one of the Mega Evolutions looks like shit. Every single one.

Mega Evolution has fuck all to do with Digimon. It's a shounen anime "super form". Because Pokemon battles are already aping stuff like Dragon Ball, it's a natural fit.

They were cool at time, but I never liked how they affected teambuilding, every team had to have a mega or you were shooting yourself in the foot. I never liked that if you had a crappy mega like Steelix or Audino then you were pretty much fucked forever. The distribution of them sucked too, that how you end up with memes like Flygon never getting a mega. Megas were like pokemon's version of rosterfagging in smash and I don't mean that as a good thing.
And then there were the designs. Some were cool, like Lucario, but then again Mega Lucario was just Lucario with more shit drawn on the already neat design, and that's what a lot of megas were, just more shit tacked on the design. I felt that Gamefreak had no clue on how to actually upgrade the pokemon. Some concepts were nice like Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Pinsir and Mega Medicham, but then you also had pure garbage like Aggron and Heracross, Mega Heracross might be the worst design of all. Ugly ass Pinocchio face, loses wings, fat arm cannons for some reason? It's shit.

I feel Megas just consumed what could've been a lot of interesting evolution ideas for shitmons, and ironically could've helped Kalos have a bigger dex that didn't need to have so many old mons to carry the game

I had no idea Digimon had a monopoly on mid battle transformations. The idea's never been done before surely, before Digimon did it. Certainly nothing predated the concept by the better part of a decade and that's just the one every normie on the planet knows.

It was an interesting mechanic that made less usable pokemon better and others a significant boost at the cost of their hold items.

The real failure is that only a small handful really used the mechanic. Mewtwo and Charizard were the best because it was never clear what setthey were running, or in the case of Gardevoir if it was mega at all. Gyarados was also note worthy for having reason to not go mega at the first opportunity to get a moxie boost. However, for the most part, they might as well have been new evolutions.

Had they kept it up, I'm sure more noteworthy megas would have been made.

The only problem I had with them was that quite a few basic stage pokemon were given Mega evolutions instead of actual evolutions that boost up their usage. Doing this prevent them from ever actually getting real evolutions since Megas were considered pokemon being in their peak form.

Yes it made some of these pokemon good but others just went from bad to average at best. Besides that megas were pretty good.
