They brought this on themselves. Instead of putting effort into the story to make the games unique, they decide to waste efforts implementing new shit then replace them with the same shit but worst every game.
They keep making new moves every fucking game. Not realizing that with 800+ moves they would have to test all. That is why Gen7 had so many move glitches. But instead of not making new moves, they made new moves and cut other moves including useful moves like Snigal Beam.
GIMMICKS
All they add the do for the end of time is make Resigned Mega Gimmicks. Like how Primals and Ultra is literally just a different type of mega. Instead, they waste dev time on Dynamx and Gigamax machines which had some glitches early on. All they had to do was make Gigamax a type of mega.
No 3turns, No 4 Z-moves, No immunities to Fake out, and Weight moves. All they had to do is make them a type of mega the gain HP + Def, weight, and lose speed. Would have been much easy to implement than making some new machinic that they know that they will ditch.
The development would be way easier if they just kept PSS, but they wanted to make Festival Plaza and Y-comm like the idiots they are.
