They might still be in. Were megas in LGPE announced and not a surprise? I don't remember. Anyway I don't think Pokemon will ever go back to being gimmickless.

The surprise was getting rid of them with gen8. At that point we assumed they'd stick around forever, as they didn't get any special mention in gen7 either aside from a single postgame fight.

Unless they're planning on making a Platinum remake, your deflection is irrelevant.
The whole point of the Sinnoh Remakes should be to make the definite editions of the Sinnoh games.
Removing a beloved feature just because "it technically wasn't in the original games" is an asinine anti-consumer choice.
