Gen II had the best Pokemon designs but a lot of them were shitmons or gimmickmons with terrible stats. Every Gen from Gen II to Gen V had worse designs than the prior gen.
Gen V introduced the strongest Pokemon yet and the power creep was even worse than Gen IV. On the other hand, several of the Pokemon designs were ugly like Garbodor and Druddigon.
Gen II had some of the least linear maps whereas BW1 has the most linear map (aside from Galar).
Gen II is a sequel to Gen I so Johto Pokemon were deliberately made rarer than Kanto Pokemon. On the other hand, BW1 was meant as a soft-reboot to supercede Kanto, included several Kanto knockoffs, and literally forced you to use new Pokemon.
