>>48589201>>48589721Purchasing a slab can guarantee you the grade you want. If I want a 10, one can argue that buying a 10 is more economical than buying a bunch of nm raw cards and having them graded. And this goes beyond financial efficiency, but also time efficiency.
The alternative is me scouring around sellers for what I perceive to be excellent condition raw cards, worthy of being graded and potentially coming back GM MNT. So I scour for a while until I amass a handful of worthy cards to submit. Now I have to hope that I get back a 10 and that my eyes did not deceive me when I purchased them.
Best case scenario is all the cards I sent in get a 10. But now, I have 5+ copies of a card I only want a single copy of. So now I have to sell them. Sure, I'll get good returns, but it's time I'm spending here too.
And what if I don't get 10s back? Now I've wasted a huge amount of resources to not even get the thing I want.
Going for slabs, even as a collector and not an "investor" can be done if you value the "perfect" and the pristine. Sure, I have some raw cards that would likely be graded a 10. But to truly know that you hold perfection in your hand is a unique experience. Plus, you're also able to handle it a bunch without fear of damaging it in a slab.
