Normalfags don't "try out" different Pokemon, they curbstomp the game with their starter, the Box Legend, any giftmons and maybe one or two things they thought were "cool" or "cute". But even THAT'S being generous in assuming they even make it to the second gym, because most normalfags drop the game forever after the first gym because they've already lost interest as a result of their nostalgia-based dopamine running dry.
Plus they aren't obligated to catch everything they see because the marketing no longer tells them to.

It's easier if you grind. I hardly did any grinding jn gen8 so by the time I reached leon half to two thirds of my team were still below level 60.
The games themselves are easy even if you're 4-5 levels below intended. All the exp share does is speed up grind.

This, anywhere PC + EXP share means I can have a full team of pokemon all on the same level and swap out pokemon as the game goes on without having to spend 3 hours with the VS seeker grinding levels.

Inherently, having your party Pokemon gain 50% of the exp they would've gained had they participated in battle doesn't make you overleveled. There is no exp increase for your active Pokemon, and exp gain still follows the same calculation formula prior to being halved and given to party Pokemon.

If you think the exp share is the reason you're overleveled, you're blaming the wrong thing.
Consider:
exp formula as a whole is bad
level curve is bad
game is just easy
you're using fast leveling rate pokemon
you have zero party management skills and keep using your starter for every battle

Having 5 "sponges" for exp does nothing since the the battling Pokemon's exp isn't halved anymore, and it hasn't since EXP Share became a key item with "on" as its default state

I swear to fucking god no one on this board knows how EXP actually works in any of the games. That turtwig will be gaining exactly the same amount of EXP as if the bidoofs weren't on your team. There is no "EXP sponge", if a pokemon gets used in battle it gains full exp, if it doesn't it gets half exp, and obviously it scales with level too, that's how it works in gen 8 and how it will annoyingly likely work in BDSP

Because I want to use the team that I want to use, and not be forced to constantly swap them out just because they're over-levelled.
And given that it's a remake, most people have already "tried out" those 'mons already.

Also, why can't it just be an option, like it was in the 3DS games?
Then everyone can play the games in the way that gives them the most enjoyment.
I don't find enjoyment by zooming to the end credits as soon as possible.

The point isn't whether your active Pokémon is gaining too much EXP. Of course they're not.
However your INactive Pokémon are gaining EXP that they would not gain at all, if it wasn't for Forced EXP Share.
You do realize that your team is made up of more than just one Pokémon, don't you?

However, I will say that forced shared EXP has always been standard in JRPGs, and the usual arguments against it existing in Pokemon are being overlevelled, Pokemon being easy, or it being "unrealistic," all of which are none the fault of shared EXP.

If my Pokémon become overlevelled, then I only have two choices.
Continue using those overlevelled 'mons (and watch them become even more overlevelled) or box them and use something that I do not wish to use.

If anything, I'd like a Key Item to be introduced that (temporarily) reduces your Pokémon's levels or one that completely halts their EXP gain while it is active.
Preferably both.

I'll be frank with you anon because you seem like a cool guy: play harder games. I agree it would be nicer if Pokemon implemented Challenge modes or became harder, not easier, with a smaller party. I love Etrian Odyssey, Wizardry, Jagged Alliance, etc. games that are difficult on design with great customisation. But Pokemon isn't designed with that intent, and "forcing" yourself to slog through sounds miserable. Recently got roadblocked on Stratum 3 on EO5 with a 3person party.

Because it's an objectively good change. What it does is NOT overlevel your pokemon, but instead it makes grinding less of a pain in the ass, meaning you spend more time having fun and less time fighting wild shitmons or recharging the VS seeker.

What it does is keep the rest of your team on par with whichever pokemon battle. It's like switch training, but better.

Exp Share wouldn't be an issue if you could just have the option to turn it off. Especially since, like ORAS, the remake seems to keep the same levels of Trainer/Gym Pokemon.

Having a toggle for EXP Share doesn't remove your ability to use it.
It just adds an extra option for those who don't want to.

And honestly I've never had a problem with grinding, and just use it as an excuse to find (at catch) anything that I missed on previous routes.

The problem nowadays is that you'll easily end up overleveled even with a full team of 6 because the new EXP Share multiplies EXP instead of just splitting it. And this is aside from all the other passive ways you obtain EXP, as I mentioned previously.

And another one that temporarily reduced their levels.
It would be fun for those wanted to use late-game 'mons in a new playthough without having to breed them first.

How can you reasonably make that claim? This isn't SMT, where you can carry up to 12 party members or more at a time. SWSH never once recommends that you rotate between more than the party limit due to the prevalence of EXP.

All I ask for is an option to turn it off. There is no good argument to force it on all players

I rarely needed to grind in the older games.
Even without healing items, the games are generally piss-easy.
Not my fault if you suck at the game so much that you need to grind for hours at a time.

Lie number one. The old games - especially DPPT - had the boss trainers (executives, gym leaders) at least 5-10 levels over your team unless you were using only your starter and overleveling. I know this for a fact, because I fought every trainer between Sandgem and Eterna, and my pokemon were around level 16 by the jupiter fight (full team of 5 + mandatory HM slave, another problem BDSP fixes btw). Her skuntank swept my team with no effort. If I had EXP share, I would have had a much better time of it and maybe even been on equal footing instead of around 9 levels short of her team.

Yeah go try and beat Platinum with a full team of 6 and no healing items, see where that gets you.

Should note, the playthrough I mentioned was recent. It also solidified my complaints about the variety in Platinum being just as shit as DP and the new underground being a great idea, because until Eterna and even beyond the routes are basically "three shitmon and something else". I think this is a valid complaint across most games pre-BW2 that doesn't get talked about enough. Granted there's less Pokemon overall, but BW2, XY, USUM, and SWSH all have huge regional dexes, and the sheer number of options are great.

yes. In spite of some unfair cuts to like.. all the snake Pokemon in Gen 8? it is nice to start up on Gen 6-8 and have access to 100+ Pokemon (including DLC) to form a team. Perhaps that leads to over levelling, that you wont be waiting until gym 6 for a party member as often. I won't argue OP that an option or challenge mode would be better - but that isn't what the games are designed around, especially post GO.

My point is that previously, you weren't so overleveled, if at all, with how EXP Share worked in the past. Nowadays regardless of whether you use 1 or 6 Pokemon, they will be overleveled, and a player's number of options have been cut due to the EXP Share being forced.

All I want is options. Multiplicative, party-wide EXP Share wouldn't be a problem if we could just turn it off if desired.

The goal of the game is to catch and raise pokemon, you're playing the game in a way the designers didn't intend and then whining when the game doesn't cater to you (not like EXP share would make a single difference if you were, so you still have no room to bitch and whine).

I've beaten that part after a few hours of grinding and replacing Monferno with Machop, but the team was:

Yeah, it gets a little better after Solaceon, but it's still pretty rough. I think that while that might not change in BDSP, the grand underground will make up for it. It's why I want to like Radical Red honestly, if it wasn't for the fact it's basically SMOGON simulator 2021 it would be kino.

Ah, so the forced exp share is better, since it allows me to catch and raise more Pokemon without it being tedious? I was able to train and use 10+ different Pokemon in Sword while in Platinum it's boring and inefficient as fuck to raise any more than two. I guess that means Sword is the better game then?

Maybe that's the problem?
If you keep avoiding battles, you're never going to gain the EXP needed.
So obviously you'll be underlevelled, and you'll need to grind later.

created a zoomer mindset in me that if I wasn't always actively increasing numbers I wasn't playing right. That if I watched animations or listened to the music I was wasting time. That a game doesn't take investment, it just takes bullheadedness. DPPt were slow games naturally, playing on hardware on release made me hate Pokemon for over a decade.

I've gone back and played Gen V on 3DS and it was very pleasant, much more pleasant then before I moved my save from an emulator.
