Hi Zarel,
You may not know me, but I'm a "community leader" of Showderp. I've been managing our new Discord for a few weeks now. I'm here on behalf of the Showderp community to give us a voice.
Why do we still do it? It's fun. We love the idea of taking weird, stupid, or straight up bad sets and seeing how well we can do with them on Showdown. It's been an almost endless source of entertainment for many of us for a long time. Personally, I've been around for almost the whole 7 years Showderp has existed and I've always been able to come back and be entertained by the shenanigans. At our core, we're a positive community, even if we cause trouble.
I don't know how aware you are about the recent changes to how Showderp is being moderated. At this point, even if we're well behaved and stay out of trouble, we're STILL unable to chat due to the recent tagging system put in place. We're constantly under a watchful eye and matches are being modchat'd even when there are only 2 or 3 spectators joining late at night, saying barely anything.
I understand our relationship with the Showdown moderation team has not been great. Many of us have been locked, banned, etc. over the past 7 years, but many of us try to keep out of trouble and are usually only the victims of saying a minorly suggestive joke, mostly because rules are way more enforced on Showderp than on regular users (see: "/me unzips"). Many of recent offenses (outside of a few idiots going way too far) have been minor jokes taken as something far more malicious by the mod team. If a player made these jokes in lobby, they
wouldn't be locked. Most of us aren't warned or muted, simply locked or banned immediately.
