I wasn't actively hunting, but I did try to pop into Schieggy Halloween raids. I managed to snag a lux ball Honedge, which I'll have to train into an Aegislash

Still slowly chipping away at Heliolisk, Drakloak, and Hawlucha in SwSh. Hawlucha is a pain, but I can typically get an aura spawn on Drakloak every five minutes and on helioptile every three. I've given up on honedge, there's almost never a blizzard where it needs to be in the wild area.

Tried hunting a Ralts in Inclement Emerald hack since the odds are only 1/1024. Went over 7k encounters without seeing a single shiny, then caught a male Gothita, then did about 2k more passes and caught a surskit and a tympole within 5 minutes of each other, but no Ralts.

I've moved on for the time being since even after speeding up the emulator I probably dropped a solid 20 hours for p. much nothing.

Pretty sure it's 1/4096 and there are ways to lower it a bit more via shiny charm. If memory serves, you have to show Sabrina a Pokemon with perfect IVs to get the charm - there's a way of getting perfect IVs in-game too, so don't worry too much about hunting/breeding for perfect IVs either.

I don't want to hunt, I ran into pic and I was wondering if it was actually legit or the chances were cooked by the game. I vaguely remember some npc mentioning that if you run into the same mon multiple times in the wild the chances keep increasing but that might have been just the dexnav thing and I might be misremembering.
If it's legit my third shiny in 17 years of playing pokemon is in a romhack that I can't trade from, cool.

false swiper, sleep move, smeargle is what people usually use, but you can use basically whatever you want its not completely needed just recommended since failing a shiny hurts really bad so you want to increase the chances of an easy catch as much as you can.

Alright so you're going to want the following.

Full odds - BW/BW2
Meme Odds - SM/USUM
Then most methods are game specific, MM is best on Swooshie for current and BW/BW2 for classic

Anything Gen 6 - 8. If you are going back any further then you're going to go into full odds 1/8192, unless you are doing chaining in Gen V's D/P/P - good luck with all that if you are.
Doing the Masuda method is another way and certainly helps to reduce the odds.
Shiny charm also helps.
Then there's some hardcore borderline cheating autism where you manipulate RNG by messing with the Trainer ID. At that point it's probably more convenient to just make your own shiny and cheat it in totally.

Personally, I like to hunt in the older gens at full-odds because it just feels so satisfying when I am getting those sparkles - it really scratches my autism.

I did Emerald RNG before to RNG some of my favorite pokemon and I gotta say - it was satisfying to pull it off the first time, but after getting 10+ shinies within a week it was not very fun and I wasn't enjoying it at all. No satisfaction, so I just kept them on the save file when I restarted.

I feel the same way anon. Personally my favorite games to hunt on are FRLG because I love the third gen sparkle and IMO they have the best frame/presentation treatment for pokemon. What other games make the status screens so stylized?

Yes, save in front of the desk, buy as many as you can. Check them and reset if none are shiny. There's no fucked up RNG like in Emerald so no need to worry about shiny frames.

yes, like >>48620460 points out RNG isn't fucked.

The reason Emerald RNG is fucked is because it always starts from the same seed and never changes. FRLG have a dynamically changing seed.

What even is the consensus on emulator shinies? I have a way of trading things from an emulator to a real game (R4 card) and would like to join in on the fun even though I don't have FR, but would the dedicated user even want to use the Delibird? I wouldn't use cheats or speedup or anything.

I did something similar actually. I really wanted 3rd gen shiny Ho-Oh, Lugia and Deoxys. I have 2 copies of FR and 2 copies of LG. I used my R4 to backup my save files, used an emulator to unlock their events and then put the save files back on the original cartridges. Then I just hunted them on my GBA SPs. I'm pretty sure people are against that, but I honestly don't care. I did nothing to alter the shiny odds and their events were given out in the past. I just didn't get the chance to get them back then.

So not exactly the same as your idea, but I guess what I'm trying to say, if you do nothing to actually get the shiny easier or faster, there's no harm in using alternate methods (or in your case an emulator) as long as you're comfortable in doing so.
