Theyre meant to be entertaining, endearing, and acceptable to a younger audience. In gen 1 kids fucking loved monsters, so *everything* was a monster, with a few cutesy blobs to satisfy the odd girl player. Switch to now, kids still love monsters but as the capabilities of design get better, creativity can change the direction, now some people want adorable cutesy pokemon that don’t have terrifying sprites. Each game has its own style, get with the times, crybaby.

Fair enough. Personally, I always liked that dragon(typed) pokemon aren't generic ciruelo medieval dragon and more simple and colorful takes on reptilian design cues.
That said, I do like the mons on the lower half of the image, but I understand they might feel too much for some.
