gimmick forms, some of the megas and gmaxes look cool but they're never going to be in any more games, so some pokemon are cucked out of an evolution even though they're shit (mawile) or feel incomplete

Same. I love Megas as a concept but I just wish it was kept on and refined as a permanent part of the battle system.

If I ever develop my own ROM hack ideas, I'm probably not including Megas because it's underbaked and too hard to reconcile with other gimmicks like Z-Moves and especially Dynamax.

Aside from Zygarde, it's definitely this. Ultra Beast/Space seem like too large and epic of a plot point to end up feeling so sidequesty. I think that UBs and ultra space are leftovers from a cancelled Pokemon Z that involved Zygarde-C defending the world from their encroachment.

You're right, it is jarring. I play Platinum and it's slow as fuck and I have to suffer through lazy Game Boy grid movement and random encounters, waste time going to the PC every time I want to switch Pokemon, look at static sprites wiggling around, while Sword and Shield is a nice and fun smooth experience that actually feels modernized.
