Bulbasaur line, Beedrill, Vileplume, Poliwrath, Victreebel, Kingler, Dragonite, Mewtwo, Marill, Espeon, Ludicolo, Torrerra, Bronzong, Serperior, Crustle, Hydreigon and Chesnaught are all 10/10 Shinies though.

The first half, up to Larvitar, is algorithm shit. Apparently the shinies in GSC were based on a fixed formula transforming the color data, which came back to the florescent green for *some* reason, and it's been grandfathered in ever since.

Salamence, Oddish - Vileplume, Masquerain, Victreebel, Scyther, Bulbasaur - Venasaur, Tangela; Tangrowth, Lombre - Ludicolo, Noivern, the Hydreigon line, Espeon, Zubat and Golbat, and Serperior are the only ones who pull it off.

Everything else looks disgusting. Mewtwo especially - for one of the premier legendaries to get such an awful coloring is sad. Why couldn't it have been the sky blue like Mew?

I think Ludicolo, Serperior and Simisage work thanks to the high contrast between the latter two's light colours and their dark highlights and for Ludicolo it being that Gold and Turquoise combination. Chesnaught also looks good thanks to having earthly colours to compliment it.

I think for the most part a lot of these are unsalvageable although Ekans could work with a like Spring Green sort of colour making it look like a typical Tree Snake. If they reinterpreted Onix's shiny to make it have green and brown patches along its body making it appear to be covered in moss I think would work as well.

Shinies that are only slightly different shades piss me the fuck off, it should've been a rule that they could only be wildly recoloured and completely different to the original. What's the point if you can't tell because you don't have strong enough autism goggles?

Despite the fact they've abandoned that bent since Gen VI?
They automated the colours, when they had over a hundred of the things launching each Gen anon. It was only in Gen VI, hen they were adding fewer brand-new 'mons to the table that they started personalising the shinies.

The only green shinies that are bad are Nidoqueen (which should've been changed because literally all of the other 5 shiny Nidos matches the color of the opposite gender but Nidoqueen) and Scyther / Natu / Xatu because they hardly look any different

Shiny Pokemon in Gen 2 worked by giving each Pokemon a separate palette file to read off of when shiny. It's manually picked; certain mons with identical normal palettes like Squirtle and Wartortle have different shiny colors.
Gen 3 makes the frontsprites normal palette, and backsprites shiny palette. When a Pokemon is normal, it'll use the front palette, while if shiny, it'll use the back palette. Not sure how it goes from 4 onwards but I know at least since the beginning they weren't algorithmically generated. It's also why ROMhacks are able to get proper shiny palettes for custom mons, whether it be later gen backports or flat out fakemons.
