Mega Evolution was a success and should never have been treated as a "gimmick". Each of these was essentially a new 'mon or form change, with updated stats and skills. The anime even illustrates this with Ash's Lucario staying Mega Evolved against Machump.

Despite what SSshills on this board wants you to think, the general public loves Megas, and thus they have huge marketing potential. It doesn't matter that you can't get them in the new games, the games don't matter, the toys and merchandise do.

Nothing I said has anything to do with them getting cut, you have dexcut living rent free in your head. It's a fact that Megas are popular and sell merch. TPCI understands this and shills the fuck out of them regardless of whether or not they're in the game. This really isn't a hard concept to grasp at all.

Or they just chose to shill all the gimmicks with the cartoon. But TPC jump to Game Freak's tune, not the other way around, so unless Game Freak decide Sugi wants more artist's block, they ain't going to bother adding them to any game for the foreseeable. You forget they're still shilling Dynamax and Gigantamax merch too (Ash is even getting a SECOND Gmax member for his team with Gengar showing off it has the Gmax factor).
And you still hold onto the delusion anyone inside TPC or Game Freak care about a dead gimmick, when they're undoubtedly balls-deep in planning out Gen IX's gimmick and toys related to it.

This. You can sell a Mega Charizard Y plushie easily but not so much a Z-Move or regular Dynamax plushie. It's why Gigantamaxing changes Pokemon forms, so they can sell merch for them again
