Maps could be too much of a challenge, iirc even gen 5 map editing is fairly recent

The entire world is adapted to the 2-head-tall style. Cramming the battle models into that world, regardless of scale, will look awful. The chibi models are also pretty scarce on polygons so as a hack performance might also take a severe hit if you suddenly introduce a bunch of models with a MUCH higher polycounts - I doubt this game is so well optimized that it won't choke the moment something like that happens.

Honestly gen 6 chibis were pretty great as a cute 3D interpretation of the traditional sprites. And they were very clearly designed with the console they were going to be in in mind, unlike S&M.

I'm right. The models in BDSP are the spiritual successors we needed to the chibi sprites in Gen 4. BDSP are a return to form for the franchise, throwing away every single mistake made from gen 5 onward while keeping the best bits.

Honestly? I did not want creative remakes that try to change and introduce things or be in the style of newer game because under the current state of Pokémon it would be horseshit with most of the old content absent. ORAS was already bad and things haven't improved at all sicne then.
So copypasting DP was boring and lazy, but also safe-ish (they still seem to have cut several pokemon). I find it funny that they're sticking so much to the original that they brought back the uniquely shaped berry trees when even XY and ORAS didn't bother with that. Too bad they also brought back fungible TMs.

Pokemon was never exactly an open world sandbox, but Kalos had such a braindead world design, just a single big city in the middle and non-branching pathways coming off if it. Sinnoh definably feels more nonlinear

There's nothing wrong with the chibis. It's perfectly suited in every way. Proportions wise and with the camera it's pretty much the same as the old games. The only problem with BDSP's style is it's way too brightly colorer and everything looks plastic because of that. Also the 3d models don't have as pronounced outlines to separate them from the backgrounds.

Completely incorrect. Did you even play DP? The closest thing to a central city is Jubilife. Same reason I liked Hoenn too. It felt way less anchored. Pokemon world designs just became extremely retarded after Gen V

Honestly I haven't played since... when were B2W2 released? As for the central city, I mostly meant Hearhome+Coronet but that's already dispersed enough.
In hindsight, yeah, the Sinnoh map feels way more natural than Kalos', but again, the way you travel through it isn't really different than the double loop of XY... or from Unova's single wavy line for that matter.
But I can appreciate the better "flavour" of Sinnoh and the crossings at Mt Coronet.

That thought process is how things end up stagnating. You never get anything more innovative by playing it safe or going backwards just because you’re afraid of what could be. Hell things went so far backwards to be the same as they were that we’re back to random battles for no reason when, in the same game, they show that they could have had wild Pokémon appear on the over world

Honestly, the pokemon following you already look like utter ass, what with them being full sized while everything else is chibi. I don't want any more of that than strictly necessary.

It does look better upscaled. Screen crunch is a thing and even if they're rendering the same models not having the edges jagged and the details deformed into a pixelated mess will always be better. But upscale it too much and it will go back to looking bad.
