Probably this weird note in the trailers.

I don't think there's gonna be a music patch, but at the same time this is very strange note for them to include. It suggests something significant is missing without patching the game.

the rotating raid dens do not require the game to be updated. these are downloaded from the server either automatically or by clicking on "get wild area news". no actual patching of the software is required.

what the Diamond and Pearl trailers are talking about is a full on patch that is required for "Modes and Features". this is not a standard message to include on trailers, you would only put that there if stuff depicted in the trailers might be missing at launch without a patch.

They needed Pokemon on store shelves before the holiday shopping season kicked off. Shipping is fucked due to a variety of factors so they had to put out a functioning game on a cartridge and depend on a day 1 patch to fix everything. Functioning meaning you can beat the league and trade/battle locally (for kids who don't have internet access Christmas morning at grandma's house or who's parents thought they would enforce family time by turning off internet.)

Everyone else can be fixed day 1 with a patch.

It's very clearly gonna have a music patch- the trainer battle theme in hte 5 minutes trailer sounds way different from how it does in-game right now. The quality of most tracks is awful as is.
In a way I kinda like that because we won't relaly hear the real soundtrack till then, but it's kind of weird that out of all things the music is what's being rushed out like this
