Yes! They are designed to be very welcoming to new and old players alike. Gamefreak has been showing fine examples of balancing the old features of the game with new details here and there to entice old players' interests while satisfying new ones as well.

Basically only 1 reason not to just play Platinum and thats easy transferring. Even the gameplay is the same, gen4 was the last one with major new features.

Ignoring the slew of retards here that are saying "Buy an old game you probably don't have a console for" and the ones that are just pissed 100% of the time, I'd say really wait for release day to have quick and easy access to proper information about all the features the gake has that may or may not interest you

If you just want a random playthrough of a traditional Pokemon game on the Switch then it's kind of the best option by default, LGPE takes a really wild turn with its catching mechanics and candy system and SWSH is a fucking abortion and more expensive to boot
