Correct anon, enjoy. I haven't really delved into GBA and NDS romhacks outside of Storm Silver. I'm currently helping some people combine Colosseum with XG into a singular game with alterations.

I'm playing through it normally, but it's still too easy. Do I need to nuzlocke/hardcore nuzlocke for it to be challenging? Only the second gym was hard(beat it after like 4 tries) but the rest were all beaten first try, I also don't really overlevel or EV train. Currently at the 7th gym, this is my team: infernape, rotom fan, metagross, milotic, dusknoir, and umbreon.

Maybe I just don't get difficulty romhacks. I know I'm just a complete shitter, but all of them seem to focus way too hard on the named trainers.
Every single one of them I play always has every story fight sans the gym leaders/elite four/champion as piss easy, than the difficulty ramps up by eleven. Tried Inclement Emerald not too long ago, and I've head the same experience as usual.

I wouldn't mind that was standard in the later gym leaders, but I don't think it fits all that well for the first one because you don't really have that much of the map opened up to experiment/farm yourself.
>The first gym leader's move pool is basically ripped from Little Cup, with Roxanne's first Pokémon being an Aron that knows Stealth Rocks and Rest (while having a Chesto Berry equipped)
I know that I can just build a team around it easily, but I can't really get into the whole "Building your team specifically to counter the next Gym Leader" ordeal. That's personally not something I wish to do in a Pokemon game, but I just wish there could be a game where the difficulty is between that an soloing anything type neutral with your starter.

bst changes and moveset changes aren't terrible but type changes are fucking stupid
especially electric/dark luxray, it makes me seethe every time.
yes the classic version exists but is pretty much an afterthought in every other respect

Does the Classic version get rid of fairies?
I heard Regerade Platinum makes the game a lot faster and increases Shiny odds so I hope those are in the classic one

depends how you nuzlocke it. if you do the PC no potions, level cap etc. then it'd probably really hard.
I've never nuzlocked like that, and treat the given starters as static encounters so it's been fairly easy to nuzlocke so far.
