The game would unironically be better in quality had they not locked so many mons behind the post game though. That being said, you're right that its not a huge deal and doesnt chage too much, it just would have been nice to have more options.

I can understand GF thought it would be cool to give players more Pokemon to find after beating the game but some of it was poorly executed.

Hoenn's electric and fire gyms had a trainer with a Meditite that knows thunder punch and fire punch respectively. Also an hex maniac in the psychic gym. Sinnoh also had a an electric gym with a trainer that had a Medicham that knows thunder punch.
Fighting type gym leaders have had Meditite, so does the psychic type Elite 4 from Hoenn.
Being the yoga pokemon, Meditite and Medicham are FLEXIBLE.

it's not like if a gym diversifies it's going to naturally get around the fact that the player has obscene advantages over the AI. type specialists are fine if you impose things like level caps, gym leaders having EVs, or gym/boss-specific advantages, e.g. fire type attacks get heavily weakened by the cold in candice's gym.
that's too hard for the usual manchildren leftists and kids though, so it won't happen

It would be interesting for gym leaders breaking mono-type more often to make it more challenging but DP didn't do that. Some retard at GF thought it would be a good idea to lock out half the dex which just made the gym leaders just as strapped for options as the player is.

I actually love this idea. Maybe something like
Roark: All his Pokemon have Solid Rock in addition to normal ability
Mars: Gets a +1 crit rate if your Pokemon are under 75% HP
Gardenia: Powder moves are 100% accurate for her
Jupiter: All her Pokemon have Poison Touch in addition to normal ability
Fantina: Beauty, Cute and Smart moves are powered up by 50%, but Tough and Cool moves are weakened by 50%
Too lazy to think of the rest, but I really like the concept

I think all the DP teams are like that. Nearly monotype except one Pokemon specifically meant to counter a type that would be strong against them.

iirc the friendship between Maylene and Candice is only referenced in Platinum, the game where Candice does not have a Medicham.
It's werid, they could have added something in this remake but they most likely didn't.
Since the line can be found closer to Candice's town than Maylene's town, I like to think it was actually Candice who gave Maylene a Meditite, and that it is the child of her Medicham.

I'd definitely like to see this. It helps balance out the disadvantage Gym Leaders put themselves in by specializing in one type, and it drives home the idea that you're battling on their turf. Kind of like how Gen 7 gave totems stat buffs and summons to counteract the shit AI.

Because Gamefreak in their infinite wisdom decided to make half the Sinnoh dex exclusive to the postgame. This was fixed in the third version that fir reason they're ignoring wholesale in the remake.

Anon is probably refering to Meditite reacting to the Sinnoh sound in HGSS instead of the Hoenn sound, wich is often interpreted as the line being native to Sinnoh in lore (it helps that they are far more common to find there).
