It WAS faithful, and having played it recently used it is still decent though I don't like how the friend zones become just a menu.

What stopped me from buying at launch is because I'm not paying $60 for a GBA game, same with Links Shitaning

I didn't buy it because it was a DS game with little enhancement for full price.

I did buy it. First Pokémon game I've bought since PSMD (I used to buy them regularly before that). The gameplay is completely different from the original game. That's a good thing, I wanted a new experience, not the same thing again but in 3D.

I will defend this because we got the ability to recruit every Pokemon variant in return which is great since there are shinies, abilities, and quirks that make each recruit unique and weren't present in the original.

Also, minus points for remaking rescue team instead of explorers of sky. Rescue team is already near perfect and the only way to improve it would have been to make a huge expansion pack that the entire pokedex like super as well as creating new friend areas. Meanwhile, explorer's only flaw is the fact that you can't change leaders mid dungeon, so a remake would have made the game instantly better assuming that they don't fuck up the rest of the game

Why is the friend area thing that big of a deal? They were always just glorified menus and they turned them into literal menus, so what? Especially since they created nice 2D background art for each area as a replacement, it's not like they ripped the whole thing out of the game.

For how much especially recently they try to shovel a "bond with your pokemon" gimmick in like amie, its baffling they would strip out a chance where pokemon could walk up and talk to each other in a natural environment.

Missed opportunity more than anything to not expand friend zones, give pokemon dialogue unique to these areas

I rage quited that game near the beginning because the text moved ungodly slow. Every fucking level up you'd have to wait like 30 seconds just for it show all the stats that you've gained. The game is just too fucking shit for people to give a shit

They'd have to had nixed the greater recruitment limit then. At max rank, each area can hold 38 mons in the remake vs the original only having room for one of each species that lives there. Meaning you couldn't have any duplicates and recruit'em all. But 38 mons running around the area would look stupid as hell.

I've already played it an thoroughly enjoyed it on DS. Why should I buy it again? I think remakes are good to introduce younger audiences to the same story, but I have to incentive to buy or play.

Technically the friend areas are in the game as a way to limit your Pokemon pool, and they're there aesthetically in the form of nice art, but it's unfortunate there's not an option to visit it. I get why they wanted to make it a menu, visiting the friend areas and then talking to who you wanted to recruit can very easily get tedious, but at least give the player the option. I'm pretty sure a fucking Denpa Men game did a better job with that sort of thing. In the end it was a concession on the art side for the game side, and it's perfectly serviceable in execution.

It was about 10 times easier than the original RRT.
That being said, no, I didn't buy it and for the aforementioned reason.
I couldn't get past Mt. Steel because I got bored with how easy it was.
The game is visually pretty though. I may try to go back to it someday just to see the storyline unfold with those nice visuals I guess.

it's a shame you can't roam around them and i do miss that, but the convenience was worth it. it was nice that they even bothered to remaster the old music for each area as well. honestly i think the only reason the areas themselves were scrapped was due to budget/time limitations, we probably got the best compromise possible.
