The purpose of remakes is to add something new while maintaining the spirit of the old version. Or in the best case scenario, improving the old game overall.

That is what they're missing. The dumbed down artstyle is a subjective downgrade, and not allowing newer Pokémon is an objective step back since all remakes allowed you to catch newer Pokémon. With BDSP you won't even be able to trade them into the game.
