On the other hand, one may be overly possessive to the point where it reaches yandere levels. People play Hatts up as waifus simply because of their appearance alone, but don't take into account any of their other aspects.
What if the owner was just a child? The Hatt could disobey them if they so chose, as the game logic wouldn't apply in a realistic sense. The Hatt might physically hurt them, molest them, force them to do things to other people, etc. It could easily threaten to kill the owner's friends or family if they said anything. In all honesty, Pokémon in general shouldn't be in the hands of any inexperienced person ever.
