Cynthia's level 88 Garchomp doesn't have stone edge, it has Earthquake, Either Outrage or dragon claw, and Poison Jab.
Let's use Earthquake for the example.
Lvl 88 252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. Lvl 80 0 HP / 4 Def Cloyster: 94-112 (48.4 - 57.7%) -- 95.3% chance to 2HKO
So in this exchange, Garchomp goes first, hits the earthquake and then takes the Icicle spear, and then MAYBE survives at low HP.
So then Cloyster just uses Ice Shard and GG.
Unless you know Cynthia has a full restore, then you just press Icicle shard again, THEN press Ice Shard.
