The games are still primarily intended for children, and while defeating someone like Lusamine could become a powerful experience and treasured memory for an abused child that informs how they interact with the world in a way that's beneficial to themselves, that's GOOD.
But on the other hand, if a child just wants to escape from their nauseatingly oppressive mother or father and runs into Lusamine, then they're going to get really fucking sad, and they might end up confused.
I grew up with a single mother and I more or less hate her. Not all the time, but she pretty much disgusts me. It seems like most of my memories are of her getting drunk as shit and coming to get me in the night so she could go on these long rants. The smell of her filthy breath stained by cheap wine and cigarettes was revolting and I'm almost sure she contributed to a number of severe complexes I have.
Things calmed down when I turned 18 and inherited roughly 350,000 dollars from my dead dad, for obvious reasons. I should have left a long time ago, but I was a poor student, complacent retard, and a layabout, so I didn't. The moment I can get out of this house without tearing through the rest of the money my father left me, I probably will.
My mother always warned me to fear my dad's relatives because they'd steal my money, and while I believe her, I honestly think I should've moved when I turned 18, because holy fuck, I hate this house. Anyway, /blog.
Lusamine is more pleasant as coombait. Abusive parents in children's content is treading a fine line. It's admirable, but I can totally understand their decision to downplay it moving forward. Ghetsis has never been downplayed because his abuses aren't as thoroughly explored as Lusamine's, and also because he's a dude. KEK.
