I'm more shocked that bare-bones-for-over-1.5-years New Horizons outsold Breath of the Wild, Smash Ultimate, Super Mario Odyssey... literally everything on the Switch except Mario Kart.

Switch owners have no standards, so of course Sword and Shield would do well.

That's just down to COVID. It was in the right time at the right place. Right as lockdowns were going on, shit was getting "real", and people were looking for escapist home entertainment, here comes king of the "comfy" games.
