Hypno and Kadabra only have a Special difference of 5. Sure, Confusion is worse than Psybeam, but the tradeoff really isn't as bad as you're making it out to be. And yeah, theoretically you could instantly evolve Kadabra to Alakazam and the gap would widen a fair bit, but Alakazam would still have far less physical bulk, which is more what I care about here.
But that's not really the point; at the end of the day, they're both Psychic-Types in Gen 1, so they're both pretty fucking good. Jynx is a nice runner-up too. Weird that you can only get her in a trade though...
