>>48701410no, not explicitly. idk if it was masuda or tajiri but one of them said something to the effect of "we wanted to make pokemon appear as living beings, in the sense that they are all different even of the same species". and the EV thing was probably a measure of the player's unique way of "raising" their pokemon.
also the system itself was hidden less and less over time
>gen 1-2 natures didn't even exist. IVs went up to only 15 basically, and the equivalent of EVs worked completely differently.
you could max out all stats as well because of this.
>gen 3-4natures got in and the IV/EV thing was completely reworked to what i described. in gen 4 personality got in which basically tould you information about 1 IV you had. (likes to trash about = 31 Atk IV)
gen 4 also added a buch of items and QoL things that made it way easier to EV train
>gen 5 and upyou could now see which stat got modified by your nature (red up, blue down)
>gen 7 and uphyper training got put in which basically maxes out IVs that aren't maxed
>EVs are especially convolutedyeah i can see why one would think that, it's not exactly an intuitive system
basically how a stat is built up is based on 4 things: base stat, level, IV, EV.
the base stat, through a calculation, gives you a "base stat" at a given level
the IV adds itself at lv100 and idk how you calculate on lower levels
the EV is divided by 4 at 100 and 8 at 50 and so on and the result is added
so for a lv100 mon with neutral lature to the given stat:
>100 base, non-HP without any IV and EV: (100x2)+5 = 205
>31 IV+31
>252 EV: 252/4=63+63
>205+31+63=299
