I quickly grew to really love a lot of the designs from Gen 6 and 7 despite not liking them originally. It's been 2 years, how do you feel about Gen 8 Pokemon designs?

I still hate the entire pic related line.

Gen 7 was the first time in a long time where I enjoyed most, If not all, of the Pokémon designs. Then Gen 8 came out and did a hard 180.

gen 8 is the most hit or miss dex of all time.
you have orbeetle and duraludon. applin and milcery. runerigus and obstagoon. corviknight and greedent. i wouldn't be surprised if the dex was actually a 50/50 split of great and garbage mons.

This is how I feel, apart from the UBs and Tapus all the "regular" Pokeon you find across the islands are actually really fucking cool and interesting. Everything from the rodents and birds to the single stage weird ones are at least just good Pokemon.

A lot of Gen 8 do NOTHING for me and look incredibly out of place with any other Pokemon. Toxel is terrible.

I love gens 6 and 7, but gen 8 is completely hit or miss for me. They all have their winners and losers, but gen 8's ratio is bipolar, whereas gen 6 is balanced out by the original fairy types and gen 7 is just horny.

for the longest time gen 4 was my least favorite set of designs
I like more gen 8 pokemon than gen 4 pokemon but I hate more gen 8 pokemon than gen 4 pokemon
I'd say my opinion's remained about the same, there's several great additions but things like duraludon drag the whole thing down really hard

It's not just that there's bad designs, it genuinely feels like a kitchen sink of half baked garbage that has little to nothing to do with any given Pokemon design philosophy.

No! You simple fucking idiot. Not liking a design doesn't make the design bad. What makes a design bad is measurable metrics of artstyle cohesiveness, concept and execution. You are GENUINELY hard-pressed to come up with Gen 8 designs that pass all 3, usually because every design needed at least another round of drafts and oversight.

This is the general sentiment. Alola had lots of flaws, for some people too many to list, but the dex was a very strong point for everyone.
If gen 7 did something right was the worldbuilding, with a region based on ecosystem disruptions coming from invasive species. Great new pokémon, great ultra beasts, great addition of regional variants.
