It's always been far easier, quicker, less buggy, and less limited than rom hacking, but was severely held back by the fact that it ran slow as shit.
v19 fixed that; it's not silky smooth 60fps but it runs better than gen 4 now, so it's definitely valid as a pokemon engine.
