>>48709794I think it's because they went in with the mindset of making a sequel, most pokemon that got new evolutions and the new pokemon all built on what they learned from gen 1 and it's great, the spaceworld beta give a really interesting look into how much the vision changed over the course of development. Originally gen 2 designs were very similar to gen 1, it felt a lot like gen 1.5 honestly because they were new, but still lacked polish. the only games to slightly recapture the soul of gen 2 was gen 4, at least in my opinion. don't get me wrong I liked gen 5 and 6, but it felt like everything after gen 4 was trying to be its own thing instead of building off of the previous games like gen 2 did.
