A fucking shitty idea that we only accept because we don't know any better. Video games had a fixed camera back in the 2D days and it was perfectly acceptable. Why should the player have to control the camera? It's not fun, and there's almost never any gameplay applications that aren't glitchy speedrun bullshit. This has nothing to do with any of your other points, I don't care, I just hate cameras in video games.

That one cutsene in Gen 7 where Hau is smiling, Gladion is fucking pissed, the main character has their usual thousand yard stare, and Faba is shitting himself cracks me up just because of the contrast. I'd say it was the best scene in base SM if Team Skull didn't exist.

Imagine thinking that being locked with a fixed camera that you can't control is somehow better than having the possibility to look at whatever you want in a 3D world....I swear you're either a troll or a fucking retard who only plays pokemon games

It takes you out of the game and puts you in the seat of a fucking camera man. In fact, most games that try to be immersive usually tend towards first person because it fucking avoids this problem. If controlling cameras is such a fucking fun game mechanic, why is it that every good action game has a dedicated button to lock you on to an enemy and remove camera movement from the equation? And when games don't have that they're considered bad. Again, I urge you to play The Wonderful 101, you'll realize that cameras are fucking shit and the game should just show you what it needs to show you instead of making you do it. Basically, play other video games, and then actually think about them.

And how many of them are immersive? Also, do you realize that most JRPGs in the third person don't have a controllable camera? Or has that changed in the last 10 years? Do they even still make JRPGs that aren't Persona with any regularity on home consoles? I've stuck to the 3DS mostly, and guess what Bravely Default is fucking fine without a controllable camera. I know Dragon Quest 11 has a number of options for this sort of thing. Xenoblade 2 is fine but the controllable camera adds nothing to combat, and barely anything to exploration. And if you want to change the camera based off the character's direction, fucking Donkey Kong Country solved this shit on the SNES, and by Banjo Tooie it was mostly fine. The camera fucking turns in the direction your going slowly enough to not fuck you up but fast enough that it's not a pain. DK64's is jerky in comparison, not as smooth.
