>>48719251It's mostly the first gen. After that the jap names really improve. You can still find a weird one here and there, but I think the japanese names are actually better in general. It's just that westerners don't like the idea or using literal words to name pokemon while the japanese have no problem doing that. For example, Litwick's japanese name is Hitomoshi which literally means “person who leads a funeral procession with a torch” in japanese.
