>>48731468I like gen 5 cause of how it differs from gen 4. The 2 are both on the DS but they’re very different. They improved the battle speed significantly, and the made it so the sprites are animated, and the camera moves around a bit to emphasize impact for moves. It went a LONG way in improving the slow stale low energy battles of gen 4, which was arguably the biggest complaint about the games. They also made the level curve more controlled, introducing the mechanic that scales EXP gain based on your levels ratio to the opponents level, making it easier to catch up if you’re behind but harder to overlevel TOO much if you’re ahead. They introduced things like phenomenon for finding rare Pokémon and items you can’t get any other way, and dark grass to give wild battles a bit more bite which they DESPERATELY needed. Also, and this is subjective, as a burger myself I actually really REALLY like how Unova found a very nice balance of representing the more metropolitan areas of America (castelia, nimbasa), as well as the more rural, quiet, tucked away areas (Nacrene, anville, village bridge etc). Also seasons add a lot of personality that makes different play through a feel a little different each time. Like how on route 8, the puddles with wild mons instead become ice slide puzzles.
I also think the graphics are legitimately the perfect balance of 2d and 3D and no amount of complaints about pixel crunch will change my mind
