Do you really think only 2-3 weeks after Legends Arceus releases we'll actually see Gen 9?
After how many times and how important they love to shove Legends Arceus being "A New Direction!"?

Yes. Gen 9 will debut on November 3rd, 10th, or 17th 2022, whether the game is ready or not.

I genuinely don't understand why they would release a game in late January, and especially to be sandwiched between BDSP and their usual February announcements. Would it shock me if gen 9 is then? No. More than anything I expect them to announce something for then. Pokemon Sleep needs an awakening.

It came from Riddler (if Khu is correct in saying all the western leakers were getting the info off him) and it's also been repeated by others at different points.
There's also the fact they don't take more than three years to make new Gens and aren't doing anything out of the ordinary with Legends that would precipitate taking an extra year development on the new games, when it's been three years since the launch of SS and covid hasn't affected any of Game Freak
s projects to-date under covid like with other studios.

I can definitely see Gen 9 still being in 2022
But revealing them on Pokemon day right after a new release is going to be in bad taste.

Gen 6 and 7 lasted 4 years.
I would rather we do that instead of closing it at 3 and expecting yet another rushed project especially when we know the focus of Legends Arceus.

I think it's no secret that SWSH got fucked because they were developing that, Let's Go, and their shitty side project Littel Town Hero at the same time and that was a 4 year gap.

I agree that it really should be 4 years, but with how consistent the gap has been the last 4 gens and the fact they're reusing assets for the pokemon themselves all the time now, i sadly have my doubts.
That said, they're introducing pokemon in side games like Legends now, so maybe there is hope and that's their way to keep interest for an extra year.

The national dex removal is going to be a permanent thing as long as they want you to continue shilling Pokemon Home, why bother with Home if you can just into the next generation?

III was supposed to be three years (they'd announced DP for 2005, then had to walk that back later in the year, it's why Emerald launched in 2004 instead of '05, they weren't expecting to miss target then). While it's true IV was four years total, Gen V started in 2007, after they'd taken a year to regroup and hire new staff to work on HGSS. Even Gen I and II follow this aim, Tajiri scrapped work on Capsule Monsters in 1992 and delivered RG in '95, as noted by history too late to hit the christmas release window and Gen II delaying from a '97 and '98 release to launch in '99.

No, but Q4 2022 or Q1 2023 is pretty likely. We're not at the point where we get a new gen after 5 years. Expect one every 3 years. That's actually what it was for the most part, it was just the gap between gens 3 and 4 and 4 and 5 that were 5~ years.

It is a 4 years gap. There has never been a 5 years gap in pokemon. Always 3, with gen 3 and 4 being 4 years.
