Probably because of the lag. But it was a neat idea. Made the world feel a bit more alive. It makes sense for Pokemon to attack in groups, and it happens a-lot in other Pokemon media.

They probably saw a lot of clips of people petting pokemon's crotches and decided the whole feature had to go to protect the kids despite the fact that it's not an online feature and if kids are watching that content then that's on their parents failing to be parents. That or they could've just made pokemon have no reaction to it to pacify any parents that might have thrown a fit over it.

Never said that was definitely the reason, just a guess. Besides, we lost letter seals, got a word filter, and have had several sprites changed for the purposes of maintaining a family friendly image so it wouldn't be unprecedented.
